Concerns raised by residents over delays being caused to motorists as a result of ongoing works taking place along the Mill Pond Bridge area of Pembroke, have been highlighted by Pembrokeshire County Council’s leader Jon Harvey.

Cllr Harvey, who represents the Pembroke St Mary North ward, shared on social media: “I’ve had a few concerns raised by residents about the delays being caused to motorists as a result on the ongoing works taking place along the Mill Pond Bridge area.

“It looks like a bit more disruption for a while yet but these appear to be very necessary works.

“I have picked this up with the Public Realm Manager at PCC who has provided the following update,” he added.

The update stated: The works being carried out at the Mill Pond and surrounding area are a network reinforcement scheme by National Grid.

‘National Grid have identified a number of areas where they need to overlay a larger cable to take the strain off the existing cables which in most instances are 60 plus years old with little or no further capacity in them, it has become necessary to upgrade the size and capacity of the existing cable, failure to carry out this reinforcement would inevitably mean faults to the ageing network.

‘There is approximately 3 weeks work between the bridge and a further 30 metres towards Main Street and the castle development. National Grid are slightly ahead of schedule and may be finished earlier. After this weekend we have been advised that the lights will be removed over the weekend.

‘Streetcare officers will continue to monitor the site- noting concerns raised re: traffic delays - the traffic lights are being manually controlled.

‘The reinforcement of this cable affects Pembroke as a whole and if not done the existing is reaching the end of its life as we have experienced across other parts of Pembrokeshire.’
