Sir,

A few weeks ago, the Tenby Observer kindly published my letter seeking early owners of my MGA sports car, then approaching the 50th anniversary of its initial registration in Tenby.

As a result, I was contacted by second owner Raymond Bowen, Carolyn Jenkins, niece of first owner William Lewis (sadly now deceased) and also Jane Jones, daughter of third owner Alan Waters (also now deceased).

All expressed interest in seeing my car, so I arranged to bring it to Tenby for Monday, September 7, 50 years to the day of its initial registration.

I had a very enjoyable day, starting with giving Raymond Bowen a ride in his old car. He had some great stories to tell. I later met and also gave rides to Marlene Phillips, sister of William Lewis, and their brother-in-law Peter Phillips, who owned the garage G. Phillips and Sons in Llandissilio, from which my car was originally sold.

Marlene thought that she was probably the first person to ever sit in my car's passenger seat.

In the evening, I was visited by Jane Jones and Alan Waters's other daughter, Nichola Reynolds, who also both had rides in my car.

The icing on the cake was an impromptu meeting with David Richards, who was working at George Ace Ltd., the Tenby distributor of MG cars, in 1959 and probably gave my car its pre-delivery check before it went to Llandissilio.

When he took me to the former Ace premises, they turned out to be the office of the Tenby Observer.

So what started out as a letter to your newspaper ended up with a visit to your office where my car almost certainly spent a day in September 1959.

I would be grateful if you would also publish this letter as a thank you to your newspaper and all the people who made my visit possible.

Roger Martin,

Essex.
