Measures to deter vehicles speeding through New Hedges village are to be looked into.
A report from the County Councillor for the ward Cllr Rhys Jordan came before the members of St Mary Out Liberty Community Council recently, highlighting concerns of villagers that motorists did not adhere to the 30mph speed limit.
“Residents have approached me to discuss the possibility of flashing speed warning signs in the village of New Hedges,” said Cllr Jordan.
“I have looked into this and Pembrokeshire County Council has said this is not something they will fund, however various grants are available. Other funding options could be from St Mary Out Liberty Community Council funds or business/public donations, with the County Council supporting the safe erection of the signs.”
Similar electronic signs have been placed in Pentlepoir over the past couple of years, after the Community Council of East Williamston and local residents flagged-up similar concerns.
“The flashing signs have been highly effective in Cllr Jacob William’s ward and I have discussed the pros and cons with him in depth,” continued Cllr Jordan.
“I am in full support of reducing speed in the village and very happy to take a lead on this project.
“I am now a Member of Pembrokeshire Coast National Parks. This is additional to my role as County Councillor for St Mary Out Liberty and St Florence however will have no impact on the role or service I provide as County Councillor,” he added.
