The West Wales Surf Lifesaving Championships took place on Tenby's South Beach over the weekend, hosted by Tenby Surf Lifesaving Club.
It was the first time in nine years that an event of such proportion has been hosted by the club, with Tenby's team enjoying a successful day, coming fifth across the board in both the nippers (seven-13 years) and junior (13-19 years) categories and fifth overall in the competition.
The event which saw more than 300 competitors taking part, was open to all lifesaving clubs in West Wales and featured a range of different events taking place off South Beach, including surf swims, board paddling, surf ski paddling as well as beach runs and sprints.
The overall winners of the event, sponsored by Dragon LNG, were Poppit Sands Surf Lifesaving Club of Cardigan.
"Tenby did well and managed to win a number of medals across the five events and multiple categories including a number of golds," said Angelo Fecci, of Tenby Surf Lifesaving Club.
The most memorable moment came from Saundersfoot's Myles Johnson who won gold in the 1k run beating the current Welsh champion.
"The club is very proud of Myles who went on to win the 1k run despite picking up an injury in the first round of events," said his coach Angelo.
"This is great news for the club and shows to the larger clubs that Tenby is still able to punch above its weight in competitive lifesaving."
The day was massively successful for Tenby outside the competition too as organisers from the Surf Lifesaving Association of Wales were astounded by the small club's ability to organise and hold such a major event.
Jules Rilstone, chairman of Tenby SLSC, said: "We believe we have proved to the organisation that we are more capable of hosting big events here on Tenby's award-winning South Beach and hope to have the honour of hosting more events in the future."
The day's action was followed by a film crew from the BBC and highlights of the event will be appearing in the BBC programme Tenby 24/7 which is due to air in September.
