A leading homelessness charity, formerly known as Pembrokeshire Care Society, is rebranding to PATH - Pembrokeshire Action for the Homeless.

The charity is excited to announce this rebrand, which reflects more precisely the life-changing work that the organisation has been spearheading since 1979.

PATH is the lifeline for over 2,000 individuals each year who are grappling with homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. The charity provides them with critical advice, advocacy, and assistance in securing affordable, safe, and stable accommodation.

Homelessness is a growing issue in the county - an alarming 5,500 people find themselves on the housing waiting list currently, with more than 650 already living in temporary accommodation.

Mike Hooper, the charity’s Managing Director said:“The decision to rebrand as PATH is a deliberate one. While our commitment to our cause remains unwavering, we believe this name better captures the essence of our work.

“Our purpose continues - extending our reach and refining and developing our services to support those facing the grim reality of homelessness.”

This rebranding initiative is part of an exciting period of growth for PATH. Collaborating with Pembrokeshire County Council, the charity has been asked to continue delivering a Generic Support Service for its clients for a further three years. This service began in 2007 and helps more than 500 people each year.

And now PATH has launched its first-ever Numeracy Project, supported by a £405,000 grant from the UK Government via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Pembrokeshire County Council. This innovative project aims to equip individuals at risk of homelessness with practical skills and even qualifications in maths-related subjects, literacy and digital skills, fostering independence and housing stability.

Recognising mental health as a leading contributor to homelessness, PATH has also developed a robust counselling team. Since its inception in March 2022, Pathway Counselling has provided over 1,200 hours of counselling and cultivated a sixteen-member mental health and well-being team.

In addition to all this, PATH operates Pathway Lettings, a social lettings agency, which carefully matches tenants with suitable properties from its list of approved landlords across Pembrokeshire. This service caters particularly to those who might otherwise struggle to access private rented sector accommodation due to homelessness, low income, or urgent housing needs.
