Kilgetty Sports Club’s 40th anniversary was an enormous success last Sunday, when crowds were entertained all afternoon by both junior and senior, male and female cricketers and also senior footballers.
Grateful thanks to Becki Badham, Colin Williams, Stuart Allen and Keith Dolman for umpiring, scoring and refereeing games.
A bouncy castle was hired, which proved very popular with the smaller children, who thoroughly enjoyed their entertainment.
Thanks go to Joy, Dylan, Matthew, Clair and Heather for all their help in organising and assisting with the fun so safely.
Nicci Hurst, Jane James, Chris Scanlon and Mickey Marsh kept the barbeque cooking all afternoon to feed everyone, though the heat from the sun was so intense perhaps the burgers and onions would have cooked without it!
Des Stone welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming to make the day such a success.
He thanked everyone who had helped over the years, including previous stewards and committees.
He welcomed original members, Hazel Poole, Keith and Margaret Tunster, Dai Griffiths and Berkley Prout, who were able to attend the event, informing members that as most of the original ladies’ committee were unable to attend due to previous engagements, they would be attending an evening at the club next Sunday to reminisce with an anniversary cake.
He thanked the Social Club, Sports Association, Football and Cricket Committees for working together, saying that by doing so it would ensure sport in Kilgetty would run for the next forty years.
During the afternoon, extra bar staff were drafted in to cover the extra drinking and glass collecting due to the heat. Thanks go to Ceri Jones, Dylan Phillips, Steve Scanlon, Dean Rossiter, Graham Jenkins and Steve Woodhead, and also to Louise and Brian Cullen for their fantastic help during the day; it was very very much appreciated.
During the afternoon, entertainment on the disco front was very ably provided by Allen Hurst, who entertained the crowds in his own inimitable way. Thanks Al, you’re always a polished performer.
The evening entertainment was superbly carried out by ex-Kilgetty footballer Alan Brindley, who delighted the crowd with his nostalgic songs that brought back memories of the era when the club opened.
Brinz sang into the night and was backed up by Thirsty Hursty, ensuring the crowds were entertained thoroughly - thanks boys you were brilliant!
