The Welsh Government First Minister’s New Year speech has drawn a not so merry response from a Pembrokeshire county councillor - who suggested Eluned Morgan should ‘just shut up’ in comments posted online.

Wales’ Labour Government leader - First Minister Eluned Morgan pointed to making Wales ‘more prosperous’ in her New Year’s speech to welcome in 2025, by growing the green economy.

Eluned Morgan said: “Over the next year we will continue to focus on the things that you told us mattered most to you.

“At the top of that list was more support for our NHS – so we’re investing more in equipment for the health service, speeding up how quickly patients are seen and cutting delays in patients being discharged so that they can get home more quickly.

“We want to make Wales more prosperous, with more jobs and by growing the green economy. For instance we are investing in more community energy projects and transforming our planning process to deliver new renewable projects more quickly.

“Connecting our communities is so important, so we’ll continue to bring new trains on track and improve the transport network – bringing buses back under local control and giving you a local choice on 20mph roads.

“And we’ll continue to create opportunities for every family in Wales. We’re investing heavily to make affordable homes more available, upgrading our schools and colleges and supporting our learners to have successful careers.

“Looking further afield, I really hope this year will bring an end to the terrible conflicts and violence which have shocked us all in recent years,” she continued.

However, Independent group member on Pembrokeshire County Council, Cllr Alan Dennison, a former Reform UK Senedd candidate, who represents the Milford North ward on the Local Authority, took to social media to make disparaging remarks about the Welsh Labour leader’s speech.

“Does this really useless politician think anybody actually cares what she has to say, no different to Starmer and all the buffoons who think they are that important that people will listen to them,” stated Cllr Dennison.

“There was only one speech at Xmas and that was the dear old Queen and now the not so popular King.

“If she would announce her and Drakeford’s resignation then maybe we would sit up and listen intently, apart from that just shut up woman,” he added.

Cllr Dennison is no stranger to controversy during his time on the County Council.

Back in 2023, fellow county councillor Jacob Williams shared what he called ‘conclusive evidence’ on his online blog, linking Cllr Dennison to a Facebook account which was anonymously targeting a female fellow councillor, when Tenby county councillor Sam Skyrme-Blackhall was subject of a smear campaign at the hands of an account titled ‘Moanalot.’

Cllr Williams alleged that public details showed that the ‘Moanalot’ page was created just ahead of Cllr Dennison’s unsuccessful 2021 Welsh Parliament candidacy, pointing towards Facebook’s ‘transparency’ section confirming that the account was originally created on April 19th, 2021, under the title: Alan Dennison – Senedd Candidate for Reform UK – Preseli Pembrokeshire
