Issues for the village of St Florence such as road safety improvements and storm erosion have been highlighted by the ward’s county councillor, alongside the Community Council.

Cllr Rhys Jordan has drawn up a number of matters that constituents have called to be rectified in recent weeks.

“As always, much of my work here is done alongside the Community Council, who continue to be hugely supportive and incredibly hardworking,” he said.

“Both Trefloyne Lane and Eastern Lane have taken a battering from the storms of winter, with potholes and erosion making them difficult to navigate.

“I’ve reported these issues to the highways team for inspection and remediation work and will monitor progress.

“The storm gullies, as many of you have likely noticed, have silted up again, causing drainage issues. I’ve requested they be emptied as soon as resources allow.

“I’ve also liaised with the street cleansing team about areas of the village that could do with some attention. A little extra care here and there can make a big difference to the village’s appearance,” he continued.

Cllr Jordan said that reflective verge marker posts have been requested for the crossroads at the top of the village, which will help improve visibility and safety, particularly during darker winter months.

He has also written to the big four attractions along the main road, asking if they’d consider financially supporting road safety improvements.

“I’m thrilled to share that the initial responses have been overwhelmingly positive, with some very generous offers of support already coming through.

“On top of this, I’ve written to the road safety teams, pushing for further improvements to make the village safer for pedestrians,” he added.

Concerns have also been raised about trees being felled on common land and used for firewood, which has subsequently been reported to the common land officer and the police.
