Amroth Community Council has moved to clarify byelaws relating to restrictions for horse riding on the village’s beach and that of Wiseman’s Bridge over the summer period.

Between June 1 and September 30, horses are not permitted on the sands between 10 am and 7 pm.

“As there have been a few comments and questions, the byelaw we refer to is long-standing and was amended in 1960 and has been in place since then,” said a spokesperson for Amroth Community Council.

The Council highlighted the fact that the restrictions were originally entered into law and administered by Narberth Rural DC, and later superseded by South Pembrokeshire DC and now Pembrokeshire County Council.

“Amroth Community Council hold a file copy of the byelaw and we re-publish the information annually to help everyone understand the law and hope everyone can enjoy our beaches,” they continued.

The Council confirmed that there is an exclusion in place for hand led ponies and donkeys for childrens’ rides.

They also reminded beach-goers of Pembrokeshire County Council’s dog restrictions that are in force from May 1 until September 30.

Amroth beach, the promenade and the coastal highway are areas that are covered by these restrictions.
