A new year-round Nurse Led Walk-In Centre, based at Tenby Cottage Hospital, opened on Monday, providing treatment for urgent minor illness and minor injuries.

The service will be open Monday to Friday (including Bank Holidays) from 10 am to 5 pm for patients to attend, with the centre closing following treatment of the last patients by 6 pm.

Bernardine Rees, OBE, Chair of Hywel Dda University Health Board said on opening the centre: “I am delighted to officially open the new Nurse Led Walk In Centre in Tenby Cottage Hospital.

“We will continue to monitor progress of the service, which will be developed to meet the needs of our local community within the available budget and staffing constraints.

“On behalf of the University Health Board, I would like to thank all our staff, partners and stakeholders, particularly the Hywel Dda Community Health Council (CHC) and the South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network (SEPCHN), who have worked very hard to establish this service for local residents and visitors.”

In a statement issued after the opening, Marc Tierney, Labour spokesperson for South Pembrokeshire, said: “I am delighted that Hywel Dda Health Board has listened to the concerns of the local community. It shows what real community engagement can achieve. I must extend a great deal of thanks to Mansel Thomas and the members of the South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network who have met regularly with clinicians and Health Board staff to shape this service. I hope that it is the start of many more services being returned to Tenby Hospital and I’ll be happy to carry on my support for just that.”
