Pictured in Tenby is the giant 50 foot catamaran ‘Hecate’ which was anchored in the resort earlier this week, escorting solo swimmer and endurance athlete Ross Edgley who is weeks into his mammoth ‘Great British Swim’ challenge to swim 1,677 miles round mainland Britain, without touching land.
The photograph is courtesy of Tenby Fishing’s skipper John Blair who spotted the catamaran when out on the sea.
Ross, who hails from Chester, and is an ex-Team GB water polo player, swims for six hours, and gets back on to the boat, where he eats and sleeps for three or four hours, and then gets back in the water for another six hours.
Having left Margate Harbour on June 1, Ross hopes to complete the odyssey in under 130 days, but admits that he has ‘no idea’ when he will finish the challenge, as nobody has ever swum around Great Britain before.
Ross has been putting himself through tests of endurance, before earlier this year releasing his bestseller ‘The World’s Fittest Book’ a guide on how to ‘train for anything and everything, anywhere and everywhere’ - documenting some of his previous challenges such as climbing the equivalent of Mount Everest on a rope, and swimming 62 miles in the Caribbean in 32 hours, attached to a 100lb log.
He has vowed not to set foot on land until his epic trip is complete, stating that he didn’t want to rely on staying in a hotel every night, as he wanted the journey to be a ‘real adventure’.
