With Carmarthenshire County Council taking an active role in the planning and commissioning of public transport services in the county, the Local Authority is asking residents and organisations for their views as it prepares a new Community Transport Strategy.

Carmarthenshire’s Community Transport Strategy will define the role of community transport in the county and how it can contribute towards providing an effective and inclusive public transport network.

The Consultation is being conducted by Carmarthenshire County Council in collaboration with the TAS Partnership, which has been commissioned to support the development a Community Transport Strategy for Carmarthenshire.

The consultation is part funded by Carmarthenshire County Council and the UK Government, through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

Community transport services, such as dial-a-ride and voluntary car schemes are a growing necessity in order to maintain essential rural and accessible public transport links. Such services can enable door-to-door journeys in fully accessible vehicles, with assistance provided by the driver if required.

Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste and Infrastructure Services – Cllr Edward Thomas said: “Connectivity and accessibility are central to facilitating economic and social well-being to our residents and communities.

“It is very important, therefore, that we gather their views to help us build a new, fit for purpose Community Transport Strategy that will enable those residents, that rely on community transport schemes, to access services and employment, to feel connected to their communities and prosper.”

This project is part funded by Carmarthenshire County Council and the UK Government, through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

The Community Transport Strategy Consultation for Carmarthenshire is open until Friday, December 13, 2024.
