Last Friday, Tenby Harbour staff were contacted by Mrs. Liz Horder from Cheltenham regarding her late husband, Mr. Leonard Henry Harry (AKA Harry).

Mr. Harry served at the RAF Marine Craft Unit in Tenby.

Mrs. Horder wanted to present a painting (see photo) to the Harbour Master’s Office.

Tenby Harbour Master Chris Salisbury said they were more than happy to receive the painting and his office gets lots of questions regarding past family members that served with the RAF in Tenby.

Below is a letter that Mrs. Horder wrote about her late husband’s service that was passed on to the Observer from the Harbour Master’s office.

He was stationed in Tenby around the early 1960s. This during an RAF career which commenced in 1955. He joined as an apprentice and then remustered into small boat wing. He served for 11 and a half years, both at home and overseas.

During his posting in Tenby, he lived in rental accommodation in Narberth when not on duty staying overnight at the harbour station.

He also had a part-time job helping out at the ‘Pam Pam’ restaurant in the main street as a cook, which started his lifelong love of cooking.

I was not married to him at this time, during his RAF career, but my family also enjoyed many holidays at Wisemans Bridge and Saundersfoot.

Happy, enjoyable memories as a youngster.

We continued to revisit over our years together.

The harbour staff would like to thank Mrs. Horder for the opportunity to display her late husband’s items to the public.
