This weekend coming communities across Pembrokeshire are encouraged to join with litter picks being organised on Sunday as part of the ‘Great Big Green Week’.

A litter pick in Tenby town centre is being organised, with anyone wishing to help should go along to Brother Thomas’s Garden from 12 to 2 pm on Sunday, June 11.

Also on Sunday, June 11, there is a morning litter pick on the day being organised by local County Councilors between Amroth and Tenby.

“For any resident in Saundersfoot who would like to give a small amount of time, we are meeting at the main slipway at 7 am,” said county councillor for Saundersfoot Chris Williams.

“From there, depending on numbers we will work to cover as many of the routes as possible to Amroth and Tenby,” he added.

Members of the community who regularly volunteer to keep the town’s streets and beaches tidy, have also been praised by a Tenby councillor.

County councillor for the town’s South ward, Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall also said that it was encouraging to see local school pupils taking on the role of ‘litter pickers’ as part of their environmental studies.

“I am pleased that so many groups in Tenby are now doing regular litter picks,” she said.

“This includes our schools, who are doing this as part of their environmental awareness work.

“Before half term, I popped into St Telio’s School with Mr Nicky Young, area maintenance manager for Pembrokeshire County Council, and Rebecca Lewis, a parent whose children attend the school.

“PCC have equipped the school with litter pickers and bags, and they have made arrangements to collect the litter each week.”

Cllr Skyrme-Blackhall said that ‘more and more’ people were now taking care of the seaside town by volunteering, and also joining in with arranged litter picks.

“We have people who do this every day on all of our beaches and many who look after their streets and neighbourhoods,” she continued.
