When Suzanne Morris, clinical nurse specialist in rheumatology at Withybush General Hospital, visited the Houses of Parliament last Wednesday to receive an award from the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) for her services to patients living with rheumatoid arthritis, she enjoyed some august company. Accompanied by Hilary Daye from Haverfordwest and Jean Bailey-Dering fom Saundersfoot, two of the patients who nominated her, Suzanne enjoyed an excellent lunch in the impressive surroundings of the Members' Dining Room with Nick Ainger MP (Pembrokeshire South and Carmarthen West) and later took afternoon tea in the beautiful Pugin Room, overlooking the Thames, with Stephen Crabb MP (Pembrokeshire Preseli). Both MPs were delighted to congratulate Suzanne on her successful nomination for 'NRAS Healthcare Champion of the Year' and joined her at the ceremony, where Suzanne accepted her award from the Rt. Hon. Theresa May, Shadow Leader of the House and NRAS Patron, and Ailsa Bosworth, Chief Executive, NRAS. Despite being warmly congratulated on her success, Suzanne emphasised that she was only one member of a very dedicated team. She felt that her colleagues in the Rheumatology Department at Withybush General Hospital, all of whom offer multidisciplinary support for patients, should be equal partners in the award.
