Tenby's train station received a floral uplift this week, but volunteers are still needed to come on board to help boost the facility's floral credentials.
Arriva Trains Wales has provided funding for four planters, which were delivered to the station on Friday, as part of their commitment to enhancing the station.
Tenby in Bloom chairman, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, who is spearheading the town's challenge for the international Communities in Bloom competition, is now on the lookout for volunteers to help maintain the floral displays at the station, and also help in any other way.
The Communities in Bloom competition held by a Canadian non-profit organisation, sees an international challenge involving communities from the USA, Europe and Asia, being evaluated on the accomplishments of their entire community, with key criteria such as - tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape, turf and groundcovers, floral displays and community involvement, being assessed by judges.
Tenby is the only UK entrant in the competition, with Clr. Mrs. Lane stating that it was a wonderful chance to highlight the town internationally.
"We'd be very grateful to anyone who might want to come forward to help look after the upkeep of the new planters, with a bit of watering etc," said Clr. Mrs. Lane.
"The planters are a nice addition to the station and there is a big clean-up and a bit of painting to be done before the summer season, as the station is the first thing that many holidaymakers see, and first impressions are so important.
"We hope that the nicer the station looks, the more people will respect it.
"People have moaned about the station's condition for a long time, and now is the chance to do something about it.
"We're also on the lookout for some sponsorship, to help maintain the floral aspect, so ideally we want physical and financial assistance, if anyone can help," she continued.
Arriva Trains Wales community affairs manager, Geraint Morgan, said that he hoped that by working together with Tenby in Bloom, the town council, and community volunteers, the station would be brightened up.
"We run the adopter station scheme, with community volunteers across the network helping maintain stations, and have 103 partnerships across the network.
"It really acts as another pair of eyes, so we always welcome extra volunteers to come on board to help," he added.
Anyone who would like to help in any way is asked to contact Clr. Mrs. Lane on 01834 845680 or Tenby Town Council on 01834 842730.
