The Robleston flock of Messrs RG and RA Jones and Son, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, hit the headlines at this year’s NSA Main Sale at Builth with their reserve champion shearling ram, Robleston 23WGN06348, selling for 3500gns.
By Boyo Vancouver and out of a Gwyndy female by Wernfawr Vinnie, this one sold in a two-way partnership with J A D and P M Owens, Shobdon, Herefordshire and D Roberts, Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
The Robleston flock remained strong with a 2000gns price tag for another shearling ram, Robleston 23WGN06308, a son of Loanhead Washington, this time out of a homebred female by Arbryn Tonto.
Taking this one home was R Swift, Little Onn, Staffordshire. Their incredibly strong run of shearling saw the Jones family top the pen averages at £1143.58 for 23 sold.
Three shearling rams then secured at 1600gns price tag, the first being the pre-sale show champion, Mortimer 23HH07942, from Geoff Probert, Worcester and judged by Deborah Whitcher of the Galtres flock,. By Thackwood U Corker and out of a homebred female by Thackwood Topflight, this one was knocked down to J Gwilliam and Sons, Craven Arms, Shropshire. The Mortimer flock sold their run 30 shearling rams to average £1022.00.
Also, at 1600gns were two from the Robleston pen in the form of Robleston 23WGN06290 and then the following lot, Robleston 23WGN06359.
The first being by Bronwydd Terminator and out of an Arbryn Nugget daughter found a new home with W C G Davies and Son, Dolwen, Powys. His pen mate at the same price, a Robleston Avici son, joined him.
Meanwhile, at 1500gns was another from Geoff Probert’s pen, this time Mortimer Mortimer 23HH08405, this time by the 15,000gns Cavick What A Boy! And out of a Foulrice Spot On daughter. Buyer here was Lutton Farm, Steeple, Dorset.
Four shearling rams then shared a 1300gns price tag, the first being Foulrice 23DG13016 from Charles and Stephen Marwood, Whenby, Nr York. By Lowerye Vulcan and out of a homebred Foulrice Osprey daughter, this one was knocked down to previous buyer J Gwilliam, Craven Arms, Shropshire.
Two from the Gwyndy flock of Colin and Ros Bowen, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, then shared a 1300gns price tag and helped push their pen average to £966 for 19 sold. Their first was Gwyndy 23XPR08793, a Boyo Vancouver son going back to Padest Sir Lancelot which was the choice of G and K Goulding, Cugley, Glos. Meanwhile, their second, Gwyndy 23XPR08775, another Vancouver son, this time out of a Banwy Picasso daughter, caught the eye of T and M Lewis, Llanbister, Powys.
Wrapping up proceedings with a 1300gns price tag was another from the Jones family’s pen in the form of Robleston 23WGN06305, another by Loanhead Washington.
This one saw the hammer fall to G Jones, Conwy.
Peaking at 2400gns, sale topper in the ram lamb offering was Dafolog 24VFC00592 from D J Thomas, Penybont, Carmarthen. By Springhill Boss Man and out of a Logie Durno female by Foxhill Va Va Voom, he went home with O R P and B E I Morgan, Almeley, Herefordshire.
Next best at 1000gns was another from the same home, this time Dafolog 24VFC00560, a Carnew Brave Heart son out of a Robleston female which was purchased from the Hereford High Flyers sale. David Barker, Wellington, Somerset, took this one for his Oakdene flock.
Then at 850gns was Ffrwd 24YET03438 from Dewi Evans, Moelfre, Anglesey. By Cavick Balenciaga and out of an Edstaston Sotogrande daughter, this one was knocked down to Owain Evans, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion.
Then at 800gns was the first prize ram lamb, Pembroke 24VJZ05255 from David Lewis, Narberth, Pembrokeshire. By the homebred Pembroke Bulletproof, this one is out of a Loanhead daughter by Arbyrn Viper and was the pick of Charles and Stephen Marwood for their Foulrice flock.
