Pembroke Dock library re-opened on Monday following an extensive internal refurbishment.

The library in Water Street now has a new colour scheme, soft seating, local graphics, and a revamped energy-efficient entire lighting scheme.

The collection of new stock has been increased, while there are more computers for the public to access.

There is a bigger space for children and young people, and a separate teenage area. Both have their own, colourful and age appropriate furniture, and corresponding stock.

One of the wall graphics in the children's area is by Pembroke Dock-born Graham Howells, author and illustrator of children's books, while the replica stained glass memorial window, depicting the Sunderland flying boats on the Haven waterway, has been relocated to a more prominent position.

To aid accessibility, both the exterior and interior main doors are now fully automated.

The opening exhibition in the refreshed gallery is by Pembroke Arts Club and will run until Christmas.

The opening hours remain the same and are: Monday and Friday 9.30 am to 7 pm; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9.30 am to 5 pm; Saturday 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.

Pembrokeshire County Councillor and cabinet member for cultural services, Rob Lewis, said it was appropriate that it was opening during the all-Wales 'Happy Days' campaign being run to encourage people to use their local libraries.

"Over the next three years, the council is committed to spending around £1.5 million on improving library services in the county.

"There are already new libraries in Fishguard and Neyland and earlier this month we opened a completely refurbished Pembroke library in a new location on The Commons."

The library's new 'phone number is 01437 775825.
