A MEET the Makers lunch at the Grove of Narberth on Friday, March 14 gave guests the rare opportunity to meet some of Wales’ most celebrated artisans in an intimate setting.

Grove of Narberth, part of the Welsh luxury hospitality group Seren, is proud of its new partnership with First Of March, an online gallery dedicated to celebrating and advocating for world-class craftsmanship from Wales.

Through this collaboration, the award-winning hotel is able to showcase a curated selection of artisan products, further enriching its long-standing commitment to supporting local makers, designers, and craftspeople.

Held in the elegant Artisan Rooms Brasserie, the afternoon included a glass of Velfrey Vineyard Welsh sparkling wine on arrival, followed by a three-course lunch crafted by Grove’s talented culinary team.

During the lunch, guests engaged directly with four wonderful First Of March makers, gaining insight into their creative processes and inspirations: Martin Duffy, known for his figurative and animal sculptures displayed at the Royal Welsh Show, RHS Chelsea, and the 2012 Olympics; Angela Farquharson, a porcelain and bronze specialist, with works featured at RHS Chelsea and the Royal Welsh Show; award-winning glass artist Ruth Shelley, celebrated for her vibrant designs inspired by the Welsh landscapes; and Mari Thomas, a jewellery designer, metal artist, and 2024 Heritage Craft Award finalist.

Founded in 2019 by Ruth Davies, First Of March serves as a digital portal connecting exceptional Welsh makers with global audiences. Rooted in the values of Hiraeth, Hwyl, and Cynefin, First Of March brings together artists and craftspeople whose work is deeply inspired by Wales’ landscapes, traditions, and cultural heritage.

This partnership underscores Seren’s deep-rooted commitment to celebrating Welsh heritage, culture, and craftsmanship.

This event marks the first of many that Grove of Narberth hopes to support, offering a platform to highlight the rich cultural heritage of Wales.
