The January gig featuring Hot Club Gallois was a resounding success, blowing away the post-Christmas blues for an almost capacity crowd at the Plas Hotel.
“The band just get better every time they play for us and make us aware of how lucky we are to have them here in Narberth, to bring the joy of superbly played irresistible mix of fiery violin, lyrical vocals, virtuosic guitar and stomping bass,” said Narberth Jazz’s Gordon Barry.
“The performance conjured up the swirling dance halls of 1940’s Paris, with a heady mix of Django Reinhardt classics, swing-flavoured jazz standards and Hot Club Gallois originals.”
The quartet featured Xenia Porteous on violin; Richard Jones on guitar and vocals, Luke Archard on guitar, and Mike Morgan on bass and vocals.
Dedicated to bringing the best in jazz music to the local community, Narberth Jazz hopes to invite the band back again later this year.
The next Narberth Jazz event, on February 15, will feature the renowned Cameron Saint and ‘The Mingus Project’.
Cameron Saint is a jazz bassist who leads an eight-piece band of young musicians who play the original music and arrangements and jazz standards created by the legendary jazz composer and bassist Charles Mingus.
They capture the spirit and energy of Mingus’s music, from his bluesy roots to his avant-garde experiments.
So get ready to be transported into the magical world of jazz and a group dedicated to bringing the spirit of jazz legend Charles Mingus to life.
