This September’s Llandovery Sheep Festival will be a celebration of locally produced food and drink, with an abundance of rural crafts and entertainment.
The festival takes place on September 16 and 17 in Llandovery town centre. The weekend-long event will also celebrate old drovers’ trails, sheep farming and the wool industry.
From goats’ and sheep’s cheeses to homemade cheesecakes, various cider producers to honey, there will be over 30 stalls to visit in and around the Food Marquee, as well as street food vendors. In addition, all the cafes, pubs and restaurants around the Carmarthenshire town will have special Festival menus during the event.
Linzi Brown, from Llanwrda, joined the Llandovery Sheep Festival organising group at the beginning of the year and is responsible for organising the array of food and drink producers attending. You may recognise Linzi when you meet her as she has appeared on BBC Two’s Top of the Shop with Tom Kerridge a few years ago as she used to make her own peanut butter.
With her husband, Jason, Linzi owns and runs Bumblebees wool shop in the Market Square, Llandovery. They created the wool and haberdashery business from scratch in 2021. Linzi is a life-long crafter with a passion for fabric and free machine embroidery.
Linzi said: “As a newly formed team of organisers we hope this year’s Llandovery Sheep Festival will be a vibrant, community orientated, event which will showcase sheep and the wonderful benefits of wool. At the same time, we want to offer visitors the best food, drink and crafts in the area. I’d like our visitors to leave feeling they have had a fantastic time and the traders to have enjoyed their weekend.”
Llandovery’s Market Square and Castle carpark will be a kaleidoscope of colour during the event in September with almost 100 exhibitors displaying their wares from textiles, arts and crafts as well as the locally produced food and drink. The streets of Llandovery will be packed with entertainment and music. There will also be a climate change forum as well as a wide range of workshops and courses.
