Once the stronghold of kingmakers, knights of the realm and beautiful princesses, Carew Castle is poised for the return of its popular annual children’s takeover event this month.
The Kids Rule the Castle event on Thursday, July 25 promises a day of fun and entertainment for all ages at Pembrokeshire’s Visitor Attraction of the Year – and the perfect chance for children to treat well-behaved grown ups to an enjoyable day out.
This year, Carew Castle is proud to introduce SuperPirates, an imaginative and energetic team of play specialists, entertainers and actors, who’ll be joining the event for the first time ever with a collection of mad games, discos, controlled chaos and festival vibes. They will also be bringing their loot of barrels packed with toys, nets, and parachutes, and entertaining guests by dressing up and creating zones to hide, explore, jump and spin.
Scheduled free sessions throughout the day include Wake up and Wiggle, a lively dance workout at 10.30am to get the day off to a riotous start; Damsels and Dragons at 11am and 1pm, where participants can become wildlife explorers with Ranger Angharad; Parachute Play at 12 noon for some high-energy fun; Pirates Ahoy! at 2pm featuring pirate antics with Captain Jan Sparrow; and Hunt the Key at 3pm, offering a thrilling treasure hunt adventure
Other free activities taking place throughout the day that are guaranteed to keep all members of the family entertained include Creature Crafts, Model Boats on the Millpond, Have-a-Go Archaeology, Messy Play, Giant Bubbles, Traditional Toys and Carnival Games.
In addition there will be an array of engaging activities available for a small extra fee, such as Have-a-Go Archery, Petting Zoo sessions, Facepainting (morning only), Botanical Print Making and Botanical Dye Workshops, fun fair rides, and a bouncy castle.
Carew Castle Manager Daisy Hughes said: “We are excited to welcome our young adventurers (and their grown-ups!) back to the Kids Rule the Castle event, where they can immerse themselves in a full day of medieval merriment at a stunning location.”
“We are really looking forward to having the SuperPirates with us as well as a special appearance from a well-known TV pig – it’s sure to be a lot of fun!”
Nest Tea Room will be open between 10.30am and 4pm on the day, serving a delicious variety of lunches, cakes and refreshments.
Kids Rule the Castle will take place at Carew Castle between 10am-3pm on Thursday, July 25. Normal admission fee applies plus a small cash charge for some activities. Free entry will be provided to those under the age of four. Full details of the day can be found at www.carewcastle.com.
