There was a welcome return visit to Saundersfoot WI from Mr Tudor Thomas, whose theme was ‘The Myths and Legends of Wales’, especially in Pembrokeshire.
President Gwen welcomed everyone to the October meeting of Saundersfoot WI. Jean was thanked for the beautiful table flowers brought from her own garden. Gwen brought a birthday bouquet for Jennifer. Gwen and Val won Raffle prizes.
Guest speaker Tudor Thomas said there were many books on the subject of myths and legends in Pembrokeshire, especially appearances of the ‘White Lady’, but he wanted to talk about less well-known instances – even when the ‘White Lady’ sometimes popped up in these, too! There was the story of the ‘Christmas robin’ which in former days was killed to bring in the New Year. There was the mysterious pirate, John Paul Jones, who was killed, but even then managed to appear on St Catherine’s Island. He also managed to be the founder of the US Navy. Tudor said that he has had his own experiences, especially places where his wife - who seems to be sensitive to these things - refuses to go.
Jean then treated members to a quiz while they enjoyed tea and cakes which Jennifer had brought, since it was her birthday that day.
Next meeting is on November 17 when the speaker will be best-selling local author Judith Barrow. New members are always welcome.
