During the summer break, some of the ladies of Cosheston WI joined other members of Pembrokeshire Federation of WIs and went to the Glamorgan Federation of WIs Centenary Flower Festival at Margam Abbey.
The floral display in the Abbey was well worth the trip and was a credit to the different WI groups of Glamorgan who worked collaboratively to set alive the Abbey with vibrant colour pops, representational of different eras and themes of the WI movement. The effort, enthusiasm and dedication of all the ladies involved was clear to see.
Following lunch at the Drill Hall, the trip cumulated with a shopping trip to McArthur Glen. What more can ladies wish for? Flowers, food and retail therapy!
On the floral theme, to resume their calendar of events, Cosheston WI had an autumn inspired demonstration from Robert Palmer of R P Fascinating Flowers at their September meeting. Robert created an amazing two tiered display utilising seasonal sunflowers, orange gerbera, yellow roses and gladioli set amid vibrant green foliage to set off ghostly white pumpkins. They thoroughly enjoyed watching the displays take shape and Robert’s passion and flare is inspirational.
The monthly competition was to create a wildflower posey: 1st – Fay John; 2nd – Pat Sherwood; 3rd – June Wheeler.
Fern adds: “With a heavy heart and sincere sadness I wish to pay tribute to our friend and member Denise James who we bid a fond and final farewell to at the beginning of the month. Deni was a WI stalwart and had a passion for baking and preserves. Deni had judged at County and Wales levels with WI as well as judging produce at local shows. Deni will be sorely missed.”
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, October 10, 7pm at Cosheston Village Hall. New members are always welcome.
