Films4Tenby will be showcasing the thrilling chaos of 1920s Hollywood with the drama Babylon (2022, 189 mins, cert 18) following an earlier relaxed screening of Grease on June 20.
Both films will be shown at the DeValence with Grease starting at 2pm. Films4Tenby are joining with the Tenby Memory Café to present relaxed screenings in the afternoon. These are open to everyone. They will be slightly quieter, slightly less dark, and with no problem if people need to move around during the film.
The doors open for Babylon at 6.30pm with the film starting at 7pm.
From acclaimed director Damien Chazelle (La La Land, First Man), the story is a love-letter to the excesses of the Golden Age of Hollywood, bridging the years from 1926-1952 as the silent movie era gave way to talkies. Brad Pitt plays a fading leading man in the twilight of his career and only getting parts out of pity; Margot Robbie is the new IT Girl, the Next Big Thing, who finds herself drowning in drugs and debt; Diego Calva is the Mexican who starts in the industry as a gofer before becoming an acclaimed director; and Jovan Adepo is the talented trumpet player who may have to submit to racism to further his career.
There are supporting roles from Eric Roberts, Samara Weaving, Olivia Wilde and Tobey Maguire as a chilling, sadistic loan shark.
The film was nominated for five Golden Globes, three BAFTAs and three Oscars with some critics saying it was a ‘syncopated concentration of hedonistic revelry’ and ‘it is guaranteed to be a movie that will stay in your head’.
Both of these statements are true, but please note this is an 18 certificate film that contains sex, nudity, profanity, racism, drugs, violence and scenes of animal cruelty.
Admission is £5 on the evening, £4 for Members.
