Swedish star Loreen - the bookmaker's favourite to win the Eurovision song contest this Saturday, has given a little nod to Tenby’s picturesque St Catherine’s Island on her way to the finals.

During the showing of the first semi-finals on BBC1 on Tuesday night, the video montage introducing Loreen’s performance, featured islands from across Europe, with footage of Tenby’s historic St Catherine’s, sitting alongside Sweden’s very own Enholmen Map Island.

“So excited this morning - last night we were featured on the Eurovision Song Contest Qualifiers!” posted St Catherine’s Island on its Facebook page today.

“The Swedish entry said that we were their favourite place to visit!! Woohoo! They did qualify so we may even be shown on the main event on Saturday - fingers crossed.”

Sweden's Loreen sailed through to the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest with her track ‘Tattoo’ - cementing her position as this year's favourite. The singer, who previously won the contest in 2012, clasped her hands to cover her eyes as it was announced she had qualified from the first semi-final in Liverpool.

Liverpool is hosting the competition on Ukraine's behalf, due to the ongoing Russian invasion of their country. It's the first Eurovision Song Contest to be held in the UK for 25 years.

The Eurovision final is taking place at the M&S Bank Arena, in the city's waterfront on Saturday, May 13, with the show to be broadcast on BBC1 at 8 pm.
