Once again the streets of Pembroke were filled with lights, music and laughter in an event with roots in history as old as the town’s iconic castle.
Dry weather encouraged a large turnout for the opening of the 2022 Pembroke Michaelmas Fair.
Samba Doc led the Parade up the Main Street last Thursday night at the start of the three-day event. With a ring of the bell and the familiar call of “Oyez, oyez!”, Councillor Rose Blackburn read the historic Cry of the Fair, which for the first time in 70 years began with the words: “The Mayor of the town of Pembroke does in His Majesty’s name…”
Mayor of Pembroke, Councillor Dennis Evans officially opened the Fair which remained in the town until Saturday night.
Celtic Security Services were on hand to keep anti-social behaviour to a minimum and reported that they had excellent feedback from the Mayor, the Council, the Showmen’s Guild South Wales, Dyfed-Powys Police and all the other dignatries on the opening escort of Pembroke fair 2022. “We are proud to be part of this event in Pembrokeshire,” they added.
