On Monday, October 24, Ysgol Greenhill was delighted to welcome over 400 members of the community to its open evening. Attendees included students from years 5 and 6, together with their families, from across all Cluster Primary Schools, as well as prospective sixth form students and their families. After being greeted by the Senior Prefect Team, visitors were welcomed by Headteacher Mr Haynes, and some of the school’s current pupils. They were then given the chance to get a taste of life at our rapidly improving, caring, inclusive and aspirational school.
The Ysgol Greenhill community strives to give students the chance to flourish in a wide range of academic and extra-curricular activities, many of which were on display during the evening. As students explored the school using their passports, there were opportunities to take part in team games, gymnastics and athletics, create their own pieces of artwork and key rings, decorate cupcakes, take part in exciting experiments in our science laboratories, and mathematics challenges and games. In the Communication AoLE, visitors enjoyed English quizzes and creative writing competitions, Welsh challenges, and activities. Whilst in Humanities, visitors engaged in map skills, quizzes, Bengali drawing, and the chance to make their own Remembrance poppies. Crowds swamped to the Computing AoLE where they engaged in robotics, Rasberry Pi and Minecraft. Throughout the evening, staff were enthusiastically supported by a fantastic student body, who took part in demonstrations, guided guests around the school and were on hand to give help where needed during the interactive activities. A massive thank you goes to all those students who came along to lend a hand on the evening.
This year’s Open Evening forms part of Ysgol Greenhill’s ongoing work to develop strong links with cluster primary schools; working together to ensure that all pupils who transition there are well prepared for life at Greenhill. At Ysgol Greenhill, every child is certainly seen as an individual, not a number. The school is immensely proud of the achievements of all pupils who currently attend and looks forward to welcoming the new intake in September. The Ysgol Greenhill community hopes that those who came along on the evening were impressed with the vision and ethos at the school, coupled with the positive learning environment, and that they could get a sense of what staff are hoping to achieve over the coming years.
