Pembrokeshire College Creative Media Production learners impressed the county council’s Road Safety Department with their video production skills in the annual Road Safety Competition.
Level 3 Creative Media Production students were set the challenge to produce a thirty second social media video to raise awareness of the ‘Fatal Five’ causes of road traffic collisions. This includes imagery that depicts the impact of not wearing a seat belt, excessive speed, distracted driving, mobile phone use during driving, and drug/drink driving.
Sally Jones, Pembrokeshire County Council Road Safety Officer commented:
“The Creative Media students at Pembrokeshire College always deliver a high standard of work for our annual media competition and this year was no exception.
“They rose to the challenge to create a short film for social media to highlight the dangers of the Fatal Five; drink and/or drug driving, speeding, driving whilst using a mobile phone, careless driving and not wearing a seatbelt.”
Devon Badham was announced as the winner for his ‘The High? Or Your Life’ video focusing on drug driving. Followed by runners up, Charlie Jones and Zac Thomas who were also awarded with an Amazon gift voucher and certificate for their videos portraying the impact of driver fatigue and speeding.
Many Creative Media Production students have been successful in winning the Road safety Competition in previous years. This great opportunity allows students to showcase their creativity and develop their media production skills whilst gaining industry experience to enhance their portfolios.
Course Tutor, Denys Bassett-Jones added:
“I was delighted to see the learners work being recognised within the wider community. The Creative Media Production course prides itself in offering students the chance to gain industry experience by participating in relevant brief projects and competitions whenever possible. The standard of work and creative thinking never ceases to amaze me each year.”
