Level 3 Construction Design and Management learner, Amy Wilson has secured a place at one of the top architecture schools in Britain, The Welsh School of Architecture (WSA).
A former learner at Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn, Amy is looking forward to enrolling on the BSc in Architectural Studies, which will focus on architectural history, theory, technology and professional design.
Amy spoke of her excitement, "I've always dreamed of becoming an architect and I refuse to give up on that dream. I want to help change the world around me, for the better. College has been a fantastic support network and the course I am currently studying has really given me an insight into the world of architecture.”
Whilst on her current course Amy has been learning about drawings, tenders, CAD, health and safety, mathematics, science, surveying and sustainability.
Lecturer Stephen Tindall said: “Amy is currently in the second year of our two-year full-time programme. She has successfully completed her first year of studies attaining mostly distinction grades in all subjects taken and is expected to achieve similar results during her second year.
Amy shows real dedication and commitment to her studies, working hard in and out of the classroom. She has always been determined to study architecture, from the very first time we met her, Amy said that she wanted to study an architecture degree at university. Due to her positive approach, and the attitude that she possesses, Amy has succeeded in securing an offer to study Architecture at the Cardiff Welsh School of Architecture, not only one of the top universities in the UK but world renowned for its quality to learning and teaching architecture.
All of Amy’s lecturers are in agreement that her attitude and work ethic are suited to studying within a university environment and that she will become an asset to the WSA Cardiff.”
Passionate and eager to learn more Amy has also taken a Mathematics AS level subject alongside her Level 3 studies.
Amy discussed her inspirations: ”I am obsessed with sustainable architecture, and I am inspire to be someone who can design structures that will help transform the world and reduce its carbon footprint. I take much inspiration from architects like Friedensreich Hundertwasser and Ken Yeang whose work is not only visually aesthetic but also offers ecology-based designs and sustainable materials.”
Amy’s future aspirations are to become employed with an established company and one day open her own independent practice.
