First XV’s Canadian Adventure - After an eventful and extremely successful season, Ysgol Greenhill School’s First XV Rugby team finished off the academic year with fun filled, two week tour of Canada.
Their first port of call was Vancouver BC, and after a day of sightseeing via bicycles, a return match with Yale Secondary School, who had visited us earlier in the year, was in order.
It was a perfect start to the tour, not only with the boys getting the chance to catch up with their Canadian friends, but playing an outstanding game of Rugby which finished with a victory for the Greenhill team with a score of 22-8.
A massive thanks must go to Mr Primrose and everyone at Abbotsford Rugby Football Club for organising this return match. We look forward to seeing them all on future tours.
From Vancouver, the team travelled to White Rock BC were they were to play Earl Marriot Secondary School.
On arrival in White Rock there was a chance for the boys to get in a little bit of retail therapy at the local mall followed by an afternoon of whale watching, which proved to be an amazing experience for all as they got the chance to see a large number of whales breeching, tail splashing and rolling in the sea.
The following day was match day, and the boys continued their winning streak, putting in another great performance to beat Earl Marriot with a score of 31-7. Our thanks go to Mr. Adam Roberts and the team for organising a great few days on this leg of the tour, which culminated in a trip to the top of Grouse Mountain!
The end of week one of the tour and the boys waved goodbye to British Columbia and flew to Toronto, Ontario. This is the first time that Greenhill Rugby has visited Ontario, and the addition to the tour did not disappoint. The boys got the chance to explore Lake Erie, visit Niagara Falls, and take a trip up the famous CN Tower.
On the Saturday, the boys played their last and best match of the tour against Brantford Collegiate Institute. It was a fantastic day of Rugby, with friendship and mutual respect being shown between all.
As always, there was a traditional end of tour meal where players were awarded various prizes. Player of the Tour went to Matt Busby and the players voted Rhys Grigg as their Top Tourist, both fully deserved!
The coaches Man of the Match for each game was awarded with Carl Thomas, Matt Busby and Rhys Grigg receiving these prizes.
The rugby throughout the tour was a joy to watch, with the team winning all three matches. The way the team improved each game was fantastic to see with every player contributing both on and off the field.
Everyone on tour has spent nine nights staying with Canadian families across three schools.
This experience is truly priceless with the feedback from our hosts being one of complete praise on how the boys have conducted themselves with multiple messages and emails of thanks being received. Their attitude and gratitude has been a real credit to themselves, Greenhill, Pembrokeshire and Wales.
The staff members involved with the tour have personally thanked every single player. It has been a pleasure to take such fine young men away for what has been a perfect tour and phenomenal trip! Thank you boys!
Our thanks go out to all those who have made this fantastic tour happen – to Burleigh Travel for organising and supporting us throughout the two weeks, and to all out wonderful pupils, parents, staff, hosts and sponsors, without whom these amazing opportunities for the students could not happen!
Uniform recycling Scheme
Due to the introduction of the new school uniform, we are aware that you may have items associated with the old school uniform that are no longer of use to you.
We have consequently linked with a clothing recycling scheme ‘Recycle with Michael’.
This community project assists with the recycling of unwanted clothing across the UK and abroad.
If you would like to participate in this scheme, please drop bagged items of clothing to our school reception at the start of the autumn term.
‘Recycle with Michael’ have requested that items containing a logo must be bagged separately to non-logo items.
