A poignant photograph as parents picked up their children from Tenby VC Infants School for the very last time on Friday afternoon.

Friends and former pupils also went along to say goodbye to the Heywood Lane school with three cheers and a few tears.

The school has been at the heart of the community for over 60 years, but is now due to be controversially demolished as part of a near £8.4 million schools shake-up for the area.

Headteacher Gill John said: “It’s so sad for the school, because it is such a wonderfully warm school. But it is now the time to look forward to a great new future for education in Tenby.

“I’ve had 19 very happy years here, and it’s been a privilege and a great honour to be headteacher of such a marvellous school.”

September sees the opening of two new schools in Heywood Lane - the new-build Tenby Church in Wales VC Primary School and the Welsh medium Ysgol Hafan y Mor, which will be housed in the current Tenby Junior School.
