Concerns have been flagged up by parents at a Tenby primary school over ‘dangerous and inconsiderate’ driving and parking on school grounds, which led to an altercation between two people on Monday who aimed foul language and abuse at each other.

The matter has led headteacher of Tenby VC Primary School, situated on Heywood Lane, to issue parents and guardians of children who attend the school, with a list of ‘school car park safety’ rules, approved by the facility’s governing body.

“Concerned parents have again visited the school to discuss the dangerous, careless and inconsiderate driving and parking of some individuals on our school grounds, and particularly at pick-up time at the end of the day,” stated Mr. Palmer in a letter posted on social media on Tuesday.

“The Governing Body and members of staff feel that it is not too much to ask to park safely and sensibly in marked bays, for the benefit of everyone involved at the school and for the safety of your children.

“It was only yesterday that two individuals had a near miss within the car park, left their vehicles and decided to hurl foul language and abuse at each other.

“This is a school and such behaviour will not be tolerated here.

“I would like to highlight that parking infringements and dangerous driving may result in you being banned from parking on school premises in the future,” he continued.

Parents have been asked to remember to adhere to the following points, to ensure the safety of the children when using the school’s car park - Reverse into parking bays so that you have a better view when pulling out into traffic at peak times; park only in marked bays, never on the verge, in our drop-off bay or in the bus/taxi area; always use the footpaths provided to ensure that you and your children get to the school safely, without risk of being hit by a car, rather than walking across the middle of the car park.

Drivers have also been asked to always come into the car park via the gap in the wall closest to Tenby Rugby Club and leave via the gap in the wall closest to Greenhill School.

“These are not interchangeable, though some people are still driving into school through the exit and vice versa - obviously a huge risk,” added Mr. Palmer.
