Members of the Dyffryn Taf School, Whitland, Young Engineers Club travelled to the Corus steel making plant in Port Talbot this week to compete in the South Wales Regional Final of the F1 in Schools Formula One Technology Challenge. The pupils competed against other schools from across Wales to see who could design and manufacture the fastest and best-engineered CO2 powered model F1 racing car. The judges rewarded the team for their efforts by awarding them the prestigious Jaguar Trophy for the best engineered car. Earlier this year, the design technology department at Dyffryn Taf School also won awards for having the best young engineers club in Wales and demonstrating the best engineering skills in the UK. The club meets every lunch break to work on a range of challenges, including projects for the Royal Navy, Airbus and Heathrow Airport. Engineering Week Wales Challenge 2007 is sponsored by Technium Performance Engineering.
