One of Tenby’s county councillors has called upon Pembrokeshire County Council to conduct an ‘urgent’ clean up of the town’s North walk area which he has described as looking ‘derelict’ despite the walkway leading to the picturesque harbour.

Cllr Michael Williams has written to representatives of the local authority pointing out ‘abandoned boats’ as well as the need to upgrade lifesaving equipment that sits overlooking the North Beach.

“There are three life belts on the North walk, one is almost unusable, and the phone numbers displayed are unavailable!” stated Cllr Williams in his correspondence.

“The existing three belts are positioned in an area that the tide rarely reaches, and there is an urgent need to ensure that the existing ones are properly maintained, and the remaining area, that the tide does reach, needs lifebelts installed.

“The walk itself is frankly a disgrace with water flowing across the footpath and weeds everywhere. There is an urgent need for the area to be cleaned up as soon as possible, including the area which at the end of the walkway is festooned with abandoned boats.

“I am very concerned about the entire area which gives the appearance of being derelict. The area is a major tourist attraction, and must be deserving of a major capital commitment, or at the very least, proper maintenance.

“At the seaward side there are a number of the coping stones at the base missing, which could lead to the undermining of the sea wall. Please could they be inspected?” he added.
