Opener Rhydian Rees was 44 not out with two sixes and four fours and had a productive second wicket partnership of 54 with Nick Davies who ended with 19 not out. Zone Final of the Village Cup

Cresselly 248 for5, Carew 189 for 6 (Cresselly won by 59 runs)

Cresselly started poorly against arch rivals Carew in the zone final of the Village Cup. Only 12 runs had been scored with batsmen of the calibre of Andrew Harris, Phil Williams and Adam Chandler back in the pavilion fiddling their thumbs. Rhys Davies and Tim Hicks had bowled well early on to do the damage. However, Simon Cole led the recovery with a stylish innings of 122 not out, which included one six and 12 fours, and the experienced Richard Harris was 35 not out at the end. Tim Hicks finished with figures of two for 28. In reply, a Carew team without a number of familiar faces did well to reach 189 for six. Skipper Rob Scourfield led by example with 48 not out, including five fours, and Tim Hicks had an extremely rapid innings of 41, with all but seven of the runs coming in boundaries. The stroke-playing left-hander hit five sixes and one four before being dismissed. As winners of the Dyfed zone, Cresselly will be at home to Seniton, a village near Exeter in Devon, in the next round. The match will be played at Cresselly on Sunday, July 8, and wickets will be pitched at 2 pm.
