A caravan thief has appeared in court after making off with one from Well Park Caravan Park in New Hedges.
Martin Fitzgerald, of Avonmouth, pleaded guilty to several charges including theft and driving whilst disqualified when he appeared at Swansea Crown Court.
The defendant was part of a gang of six to eight men who made off with two caravans from the site in the village of New Hedges that sits between Tenby and Saundersfoot, on the afternoon of December 11, 2023.
The owner of Well Park phoned police to report two vehicles entering the site, with the gang then proceeding to hitch two caravans to their vehicles.
A caravan valued at £32,000, and another worth £25,000 were taken, but Fitzgerald was stopped by police at services outside Cardiff on the M4.
The defendant didn’t have a driving licence or insurance, and he was disqualified from driving at the time. He was also on bail whilst under investigation for a previous caravan theft.
Police officers found that a fake number plate was attached to his Skoda using hair ties. Bolt cutters, jump leads, a wheel brace and towing wing mirrors, as well as another number plate, were also found in the vehicle.
