County councillors are calling for road improvements to be made to finally alleviate flooding problems on a route between Tenby and Carew.
Once again the section of the B4318 road near Gumfreston was closed due to flash flooding over the weekend following heavy rain across the county.
Clr. Michael Williams, who represents Tenby’s North ward, along with his Plaid Cymru colleagues, Clr. Jon Preston (Penally) and Clr. Paul Rapi (Carew), have contacted Pembrokeshire County Council’s head of highways and construction, Darren Thomas, with their concerns.
“Once again over recent days this road has been partially or completely blocked by floodwater,” said Clr. Williams.
“The last time I raised this matter with Ian Westley (PCC’s chief executive), a warning system was put in place advising motorists when there was flooding.
“This does help, but doesn’t address the problem.
“My understanding is that the only way to prevent this flooding is to raise the highway.
“I do understand that this would be a costly matter, but the disruption is considerable, with traffic often diverting along the Ridgeway, which is far from an ideal situation given the limitations of that road,” added Clr. Williams, asking for the matter to be re-examined as a matter of urgency.
