Pembrokeshire County Council’s streetcare manager has been asked to look once again at pedestrian walkways in Tenby being blocked by a proliferation of A-frames and advertising boards, causing difficulties in particular for wheelchair users and pram pushers within the walled town.
Tenby’s county councillor for the North ward, Cllr Michael Williams has sent correspondence to Marc Owen of PCC, asking him to look at the matter, all year round.
“There is now a huge issue in Tenby town centre with pedestrian walkways being blocked by A-frames and general advertising clutter, some advertising the same businesses over and over,” explained Cllr Williams.
“This degree of pedestrian obstruction is causing elderly and disabled people a major problem and is I understand illegal. Those who have to use wheelchairs are now finding the situation impossible, and urgent action is needed.
“During last year I did report one area which was completely blocked resulting in pedestrians having to step on to the highway as the footpath was completely blocked.
“Nothing was done at that time, and the problem persists, pedestrians have a right to expect the Local Authority to take action.
“Please could urgent action be taken to address the issue as the town will soon be completely overtaken by this unfortunate behaviour,” added Cllr Williams, who has also asked PCC to look at fixing the poor state of bollards on pavements along Tenby Hight Street to Tudor Square, which have become loose and are ‘becoming a danger’ he states.
