Consultations are set to get underway for further phases on Saundersfoot’s ‘Active Travel Scheme’.
The initial phase of the ‘active travel’ was completed before the summer, creating connectivity between the train station to Valley Road and the wider network along The Ridgeway.
Now Pembrokeshire County Council’s Transport Strategy Team are pressing on with further work, with a Public Consultation commencing from November 5, for the scheme, which is divided into three key parts, highlighted as follows:
Stammers Road
The Stammers Road Scheme will provide a continuous Shared Use Path (SUP) route for pedestrians and cyclists between Saundersfoot Harbour and Stammers Road. Delivering a number of improvements, including formation of a new mini-roundabout at the Harbour junction, widened footways, controlled crossings and improved SUP links to the wider network.
Sandy Hill Road
The Sandy Hill Road proposal provides a direct connection between Saundersfoot and the A478, serving a number of holiday farms and providing a key route for tourists, residents and wider Pembrokeshire visitors into the village. The scheme proposes to provide improved footway connections, traffic calming measures, improved crossing points for pedestrians and a Shared Use Path.
Frances Road
Linking Coppet Hall Beach with Saundersfoot village through an improved off-road shared use path along Frances Road, this scheme provides an alternative walking/cycling link for residents and students who wish to access the beach. Additional works around the Saundersfoot CP School are also considered to connect into existing infrastructure in the area.
The Public Consultation will commence with a workshop/drop-in session on November 5 between 10am and 12noon; 1 and 4pm; and 6.30 and 8pm at The Coal Building, Saundersfoot Harbour.
The sessions will have representatives from Pembrokeshire County Council, to answer any questions that may arise.
An online public survey can be accessed, via: https://www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/have-your-say/consultations
The online survey will remain available for 4 weeks concluding on December 3.
A spokesperson for the Local Authority said: “Whilst the County Council encourages consultation responses to be made via our online consultation system, paper hardcopies of the designs and survey, along with a comments box, will be located at The Coal Building at Saundersfoot Harbour and County Hall.
“The printed version and paper surveys will remain in place until December 3, where they will be collected.
“Following on from the consultation period, final preferred option(s) will be identified. This preferred option will not be finalised until we have the feedback from the local community,” they added.
