St Andrew’s Church Narberth which is embarking on an exciting project to restore and re-order the church building will be holding a ‘community open day’ on Saturday (June 15)

New designs commissioned by the Parochial Church Council (PCC), will allow for refurbishment of both the interior and exterior of the building, introducing catering and toilet facilities, whilst the heating and lighting systems will be upgraded to modern standards.

A new entrance will create a welcoming space along with exhibitions of local interest and the stained glass windows will be restored to their former glory.

Beyond the need to restore and preserve the fabric of this historic building, the PCC have at the heart of their project to engage with and involve the whole community so that the proposed work will provide much needed facilities and activities not at present enjoyed.

The renewed and reinvigorated building will serve as an additional attraction to Narberth’s visitors; there is the potential for a unique interactive experience using the medieval tower - ‘Living in the Church Tower’ and this, along with some of the exhibition material will be created in association with Narberth Museum who have entered into partnership with the church.

Exploration of partnerships with other local organisations is also underway to provide valuable links across the community of Narberth town.

A range of activities will be launched for example, workshops for craft activities, music and other arts, memory banks drawing on the experiences of the people of Narberth, activities to support disabled and young people.

Members of the local community are invited to drop in to the ‘Community Open Day’ being held tomorrow between 10 am and 4 pm when they will be able to see the plans for this project and offer ideas and opinions.

Refreshments will be provided and it is hoped that all those with an interest in St Andrew’s Church and in the development of the proposed range of facilities and activities will attend.
