Over 20 members gathered in Carew Memorial Hall on the only fine, warm sunny day of late but in good spirits as they joined in the singing of Jerusalem.
Final arrangements were made for the June trip to Picton Castle and the meal thereafter.
Marnie was thanked for leading on the Rose Bowl entry, ably assisted on the day by Rosemary. Carew’s entry was ‘the haunting of Carew Castle” Both Rosemary and Bronwen K scored high marks with their craft contributions of the Princess Nest and the Barbary Ape but the competition was fierce, scores tight, and there was little to separate the entries. Camrose WI came first and Carew WI congratulates them for winning the County Round on their first time of entering.
Carol’s delicious home baked scones and homemade blackcurrant jam scored very highly too in the Carew WI Rose Bowl entry - well done Carol. Members enjoyed some of these with their cup of tea on the day.
Meanwhile, waiting in the wings were Jayne and Chloe from Carew Village Shop. Jayne has visited Carew WI before and was warmly welcomed.
Under her tuition, members made silk peonies and hydrangeas in lots of different colours. Jayne’s warm and humorous style puts everyone at ease and a number of members commented later on the therapeutic effect of building flowers in this relaxed way.
Jayne congratulated everyone on the beautiful blooms and remarked on their lovely scent, at which point almost everyone held their bloom to their nose! Jayne said she will take that picture with her forever, that so many fell for her comment, and the place erupted into laughter. Chloe also seemed to enjoy her afternoon and President Edith thanked them both for a fun afternoon and for the gift of the flowers to take home.
Chloe and Jayne, who run the village shop together, are huge contributors to village life, and Carew WI thanks them for going above and beyond in everything they do for the local community.
