A LOCAL man in his nineties was amazed by an apparently random act of kindness by a woman he describes as the Angel of Tesco’s.

Having loaded his trolley and taken it to the checkout at the Pembroke Dock supermarket last Tuesday afternoon, widower Derek Bath realised he had left his wallet in the car. The checkout assistant put the shopping aside as he went to the car park to find the wherewithal to pay.

When he came back, he found that the lady behind him had paid for his groceries - worth £32.97 - in full. Derek, who describes himself as a “normal healthy bloke” was astounded at her kindness, and truly thankful.

“I don’t think she’d won the lottery, or anything like that,” he said.

“It makes me feel good,” said the lady, who did not give her name. “I want to do it.”

The cashier was amazed as well. Although occasionally someone might chip in a couple of pounds to help someone who finds themselves short, she had never before experienced a bill paid in full by another customer.
