Tenby’s new Mayor has said that he is keen to ‘deliver’ - as postie Dai Morgan was installed in the role at a ceremony on Friday night.
The Mayor Making was held at the Mayor’s Parlour, with Cllr Morgan making the Declaration of Acceptance of Office followed by the swearing of the Oath, to be officially installed as the seaside town’s 634th Mayor.
Fellow councillor and well-known actor Cllr Charles Dale was installed as Deputy Mayor; with Rev. John Morgan appointed as Sergeant at Arms; Mrs. Denise Cousins as Sergeant at Mace; and Rev Adrian Davies as Mayor’s Chaplain.
Cllr Morgan’s partner Melanie Lewis was appointed to be his Mayoress, before proceedings moved into the De Valence Pavilion venue for the Mayor Making dinner.
When electing Cllr Morgan recently around the Tenby Town Council table, outgoing Mayor Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall (after her third consecutive term) said that she was really ‘thrilled’ to see Cllr Morgan put his name forward, and knows that he will do a ‘marvellous job’.
Cllr Morgan who was co-opted onto the Town Council in July of 2019 lives in the seaside town with his partner Melanie, son Miles and daughter Erin. He works as a postman, from the Narberth office, covering that area as well as Whitland and Tenby itself.
As well as stepping in as Mace Bearer, for the Mayor party from time to time, since he joined the Council in 2018, Cllr Morgan is involved with various charities, and is currently on the committee for Tenby Sea Swim Association which organises the popular Tenby Boxing Day charity swim.
He said recently when putting his name forward to don the scarlet robes of office for 2023/2024: “It’s a huge privilege to follow in the footsteps of many great people who have been Mayor of the town.
“I am looking forward to the next twelve months. I think it's vital to continue on the similar path we are on now.
“I’m excited and look forward to representing Tenby and the people of the town,” he added.
