Thirty-two teams filled The Regency Hall, Saundersfoot, in anticipation of the much-talked about one-off charitable comedy quiz with Rhod Gilbert and Chris ‘Korkey’ Corcoran in aid of The Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff - Wales’ leading cancer hospital. They weren’t to be disappointed as Rhod and friends (Ed, Clint, Chris) entertained the crowd for three hours with quips, cryptic questions and on stage antics. After the cracker eating, Will Smith Tribute singing and lookalike competitions, a raffle and auction were held.

Together with the successful bid for a kicking masterclass with Neil Jenkins, Dan Biggar and Leigh Halfpenny, over £6,000 was raised during the night, bringing the grand total following the previous events (held locally with Greenhill School, Tenby) to just under £9,000.

The money raised will be included with the proceeds of Rhod’s earlier Cardiff-based comedy event at The Wales Millennium Centre, which in itself raised in excess of £60,000.

The feedback from those attending the quiz was extremely positive and Saundersfoot Community Council chairman and joint organiser, Anthony Mattick, said: “It was a real treat and privilege to have such a well-known performer in our village. Thanks must also go to Pembrokeshire Wealth Management, of Saundersfoot, and Gavin Davies, local fisherman, for their financial assistance, as well as Little & Large Bites, staff at the Regency Hall (Gail and Emma), Dom and staff at the Sports and Social Club.

Anthony, Rhod and friends flew out to Peru on Wednesday to start their sponsored trek to Machu Picchu.
