Boxing champ Scott Gammer has given a big lift to the new Go4It! project in his home town. Scott, the British heavyweight champion, was the star supporter at the official launch party held at Pembroke Dock's Youth Centre recently, attended by over 50 young people.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority is the lead organisation for the Go4It! project - the first to be launched in Wales. It targets 11 to 25- year-olds in Pembroke Dock and is part of a Wales- wide mission to encourage people to get more physically active in the great outdoors. Go4It! co-ordinator Tom Moses welcomed the Mayor of Pembroke Dock, Clr. Sue Perkins - also a member of the National Park Authority - who in turn introduced Scott Gammer. Scott - who defends his British title against Danny Williams at Neath next month - said the project was a wonderful idea and he urged young people to take advantage of the opportunities to do a range of outdoor activities and to get fitter. The youngsters were able to take part in several taster activities, including reaching the heights of the youth centre on climbing gear. Helping Tom with the activities were staff from Pembrokeshire Activity Centre, Local Health Board, Pembrokeshire County Council Youth Service, and Stackpole for Outdoor Learning (National Trust). There are exciting times ahead for the Go4It! team and Tom hopes to link up again with Scott Gammer on one of his training sessions. "We are very grateful to Scott for giving up his time from a very strict training schedule to support the launch. He is a great local example of the positive benefits of physical activity," added Tom. For further information on Go4It!
