Carmarthenshire County Council is urging parents and guardians of pupils who will be transferring from primary to secondary school in September 2025 to submit their applications for school transport as soon as possible if they believe they meet the eligibility criteria.

Applications for school transport are required for pupils who will be attending secondary schools including those outside of Carmarthenshire, in neighbouring counties.

These applications must be submitted to Carmarthenshire County Council by 31 December 2024 to ensure that transport arrangements can be made in time for the new school year. Applicants must also reside in Carmarthenshire.

It is especially important for those planning to attend schools in other counties to apply early. Submitting applications before the deadline will help avoid delays in transport provision and ensure a smooth transition to secondary school.

Parents and guardians can visit the Carmarthenshire County Council's dedicated school transport page for full details on eligibility and the application process. The page also provides access to the application form, which can be completed online.

Cllr Edward Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste, and Infrastructure Services said: “Ensuring that pupils have access to reliable transport is a vital part of their transition to secondary school.

“We encourage all parents and guardians of pupils transferring to secondary school in September 2025 to apply for school transport as soon as possible, especially those attending schools outside of Carmarthenshire.”
