A six-year-old from Pennar inspired by the fundraising efforts of veteran Captain Tom Moore has set about taking on his own challenge to support the NHS.

Oscar has been running throughout April and initially set himself a challenge to complete 20 miles and raise £100 reach - because that’s how old Captain Tom will be on his birthday this Thursday.

However, the young fundraiser has already surpassed that total by some way, and has now raised the bar after reaching over £900!

His mother Michelle Laugharne said: “Having learned about Captain Tom he has been inspired to keep running everyday during the lockdown and uses his 1 hour a day to do at least an average of a mile a day - sometimes 2 or 3.”

Captain Tom initially aimed to raise £1,000 by doing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday, but his fundraising efforts have raised millions for NHS charities so far.

Oscar said that showing support for the NHS heroes and local hospitals in Wales, and those helping him to raise more money is making him feel ‘really happy’ and he will continue his efforts during lockdown to raise as much as possible, to help achieve something special during the pandemic.
