June and July have been busy months for Begelly, Kilgetty Community Association. They held a 'litter pick' during Keep Wales Tidy Week, and with the help of the 1st Kilgetty Scout Group and some extra local hands, they gathered 25 bin bags of rubbish. They were delighted to hear that they are through the first round of the Calor Gas Village of the Year award. Judges will be visiting on August 21 so another 'litter pick' may well be needed that week! Last week, they held the Kilgetty in Bloom gardening competition. Entries were considerably fewer than in previous years, but they were glad to see some 'new' residents taking part. Judging day went smoothly, thanks to the fine weather and their three judges, Chris and Paul Holland and Samantha Coney. Mr. Cummings, of Begelly Park Gardens, kindly provided much-needed refreshments when they broke for lunch, and the list of winners and runners-up was completed by mid-afternoon. The Open Gardens Day on Saturday proved popular, with a plant sale at one garden, and cream tea at another. Grateful thanks go to Llyniams, Bridge Stores, Kilgetty Pharmacy, the Post Office and TIC for handling the entry forms, and to all who entered their gardens or gave donations. Stepaside School joined in with designs of butterflies and bees from Years 1 and 2. Their pictures were all marvellous, making the job of picking winners extremely difficult. However, Holly and Rebecca were awarded the shield this year. All their designs will be on display at the association's Presentation of Prizes on Friday, July 28, at the Community Centre from 5 pm.
