Local councillors have urged the community and businesses in Tenby to get behind plans to make Tenby Firefighters Carnival a week long celebration this year to commemorate 100 years of the event.

A week long programme of events is planned to celebrate ‘carnival fever’ in Tenby, with the Firefighters Carnival celebrating its milestone at this year’s parade on Wednesday, August 7.

The week will kick-off on Monday, August 5 with a pop-up cinema event at the Fire Station showing the film Backdraft, before the main open day and carnival parade on the Wednesday.

Thursday will see Tenby Male Voice Choir give an evening performance down on the harbour, with Tenby Museum hosting the launch of the official Carnival Book on the Friday.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane said that she had last week met with Tenby firefighters Lee Simmons and Rhys Thomas to launch proceedings by visiting local schools in support of the Tenby in Bloom poster competition which this year would incorporate a Carnival Centenary theme into children’s drawings.

The fire crew have also sent out letters to all businesses in the town and the surrounding area requesting their support in decorating shops/houses for the Carnival week.

“Everybody in the community needs to get on board and show support in any which way they can with what the Tenby Firefighters are trying to achieve this year to mark the carnival’s centenary - they deserve that for all they do for the town,” said Clr. Lane.

Firefighter Lee Simmons said that there is lots going on this year and the fire crew have been trying to make this a special one with all the added events taking place to try and bring the whole town together.

“The Carnival day itself needs no reminding but we hope that everyone is able to support us once again for a week full of special activities to mark the centenary,” said Lee.
